What happens if I die?

If you die within five years of starting to take your pension a lump sum death benefit may be payable.

Pensions are also payable to a spouse or civil partner or a person who was financially dependent on you. Children’s pensions are payable to any children who are:

  • under age 18
  • under age 23 and in full-time education or training
  • any age and incapable of self-support due to mental or physical incapacity, and were financially dependent on you

Nomination forms

You can nominate one or more people to receive a lump sum death benefit, so make sure that you have submitted a complete and up-to-date form.

Section A/B members should complete the Direction of lump sum death benefit form.

Section C members should complete the Nomination of lump sum death benefit form.
