Administration change for members with RMSPS and RMPP benefits

14 November 2019

On 7 November the pension administration for members who have benefits in both the Royal Mail Statutory Pension Scheme (RMSPS) and the Royal Mail Pension Plan (RMPP) will move to Capita for the RMSPS element of their pension.

How do I know what scheme(s) I am in?

If you were a member of the Royal Mail pension scheme before and after 1 April 2012 then you are known as a ‘joint member’. This means your Royal Mail pension benefits are split over two schemes:

  • Royal Mail Statutory Pension Scheme – from when you joined the Royal Mail pension scheme to 1 April 2012. RMSPS was created after Royal Mail was privatised so the pension benefits you built up before 1 April 2012 were put in this scheme. This is administered by Capita.

  • Royal Mail Pension Plan – from April 2012 to the date you leave or retire. This is administered by the Royal Mail Pension Service Centre (PSC).

In October 2018, the administration for deferred and pensioner members of the RMSPS moved from the Royal Mail Group Pension Service Centre (PSC) to Capita.

The process of splitting the administration responsibilities for joint members has finished. If you are a joint member and have a query on your RMSPS benefits you must contact Capita for help with your RMSPS pension. If you are a joint member and are thinking about taking your benefits you must first contact the PSC to start the process of taking your benefits.

What does this mean for you?

Your benefits have not changed and will still be paid in the same way at retirement.

The only change is your contact for your RMSPS pension. For RMSPS you must contact Capita.

When you want to take your pension, you have to contact both Capita and the PSC to complete the retirement process. You can find out more about how this process works by reading through the following timelines:
